You may never swing from tree to tree like Tarzan, but at Smoky Mountain Ziplines in Pigeon Forge, you can experience the next best thing on one of the biggest zipline courses in the area. SMZ’s canopy tour features 14 different zipline runs, starting out low and slow and gradually getting longer, higher and faster. At one point, the lines can get you flying through the air like a bird at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour.
The ziplines run from one mature hardwood tree to another and get visitors out in the middle of the natural beauty of the Smokies’ foothills. There’s little walking involved too. The attraction’s shuttle takes you from the outpost to the beginning of the canopy tour, and then there are just short walks between one line’s landing platform and the next line’s launch platform.
Even if you’ve had no experience, ziplining is something that virtually any one can do once they’ve had some brief introductory training. Two guides accompany each group and help every person on the tour learn how to launch, steer and stop. And before you get started, they’ll even provide all the safety equipment, including a harness, helmet and protective gloves.
While you’re out on the course, you can feel the wind in your hair, but don’t forget to take a few moments to look around, take in the scenery and just enjoy the ride. When you’re done, if you’re ready to take on some even bigger thrills, head over to Smoky Mountain Zipline’s four-line SuperZip course, which has the highest, longest and fastest ziplines in the Smokies.
