Maybe you’ve always wanted to go skydiving but were just too chicken to jump out of an airplane. If so, here’s an attraction that will let you experience the sensation of freefall but without any of the risk. Flyaway Indoor Skydiving in Pigeon Forge does its thing in a two-story wind tunnel, with a large propeller under the wire mesh floor that generates wind speeds of up to 115 miles per hour. The result is a column of air on which participants can create the feeling of a high altitude freefall.

The experience starts with a 20-minute training class in which students are taught body positions and safety procedures. Then groups of five are taken into the tunnel for 15 minutes, giving each student three minutes of solo flying time. All the while, an instructor is with you in the tunnel to help you maintain the best freefall position and stay airborne as long as possible.

While Flyaway is often enjoyed by people who have never skydived, experienced skydivers have also found it useful in improving their body-flight skills. As such, the attraction offers five-flight coaching packages to help jumpers achieve specific goals. Flyaway Indoor Skydiving opened in Pigeon Forge in 1982, making it the first indoor body-flight facility in the nation to open itself to the public. Participants must weigh at least 40 pounds, while the maximum weight limits are 230 and 200 pounds for males and females, respectively.
