The Far East meets East Tennessee at this amazing live show at Smoky Mountain Palace Theater in Sevierville. The show is divided into more than a dozen segments, each of which features a different acrobatic feat, including Chinese yo-yos and performers who dive through moving hoops. One of the most remarkable spectacles is the young lady who rides her tall unicycle atop a high wire while also catching stacks of multiple bowls on her head.
Among the additions for 2009 are 14 of the Chinese drummers who performed in the opening ceremonies of the summer Olympic games in Beijing. Also new on the bill are a Chinese magician, a group of acrobats who perform from suspended leather straps, and the incredible Face Off segment, in which a young woman changes masks so quickly, you won’t believe your eyes.
Production elements include dazzling costumes, sets and lighting effects that engage all the senses, resulting in a performance of top quality. In the show’s finale, as many as five motorcyclists simultaneously ride circles around each other inside a large metal sphere. In fact, the group is currently listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for their feat.
Cirque de Chine at Smoky Mountain Palace Theater in Sevierville is open from late March through December.
